ROOKIE BLUE BLOG 101 [Seminar; non-credit. Prerequisite: Hill Street Blues]

At first glance, this blog may seem to lack structure.  This is my fault.  There is no overall plan, other than to write about what spontaneously comes to mind.  A legacy of a writing exercise, during a creative writing course I took in 1993.  [Bruce Armstrong, WFNS]

One way to understand Rookie Blue is to compare it with a past police show.  Hill Street Blues was the last police show that really made me watch.  The two are opposites.  Hill, because its focus is on veteran cops operating in a crime infested zone, is much raunchier.

                    "Name?"

                    "Curtis."

                    "Curtis what?"

                    "Curtis...interruptus!"

Some of Rookie's finest moments are quiet ones.  Like when a veteran tries to help a rookie through a difficult time.

                   "How are you doing?

                   "Good...I'm good."

                   "Yeah?  You killed somebody
                     today."

                   "Yeah..."

"You ever feel like talking, you
                     let me know...alright?

                   "Yeah...thanks."

I'm glad it's not a credit course...and I was relieved to see that Calculus wasn't a requisite. Phew! :))

Okay...question...does Sam have an accent? Andy's brunette in my world (and Italian...ha ha...Andrea) Ha ha... Getjets? You probably will make her a blond.

Actually, you'd make a good cop. You would have some smarty pants comment to make each time you arrested someone.

Keep it coming, Daniel. I like the little pieces you give us. I enjoy putting the whole puzzle together...

Giulia!

Sorry I took so long to reply. Just recovered from what I suspect was food poisoning.

"little pieces" comment is very
perceptive. I like to keep the focus tight...it's the same way I think up a scene, when I'm working on my screenplay.

"Smarty pants". Thank you. [I've been called worse!]

You're right. Andy's a brunette...just...like...you.

P.S. Sam has a Canadian accent.
When I first learned of this
show, I was surprised that it
was a Canadian production.

Oh Daniel!

Please don't feel like you have to write to me after each ridiculous comment. :)

And boy, I didn't write my comment properly...I think Getjets would make the smarty pants cop. Hmmmm....actually, YOU-Daniel-would make more of an insightful, thought-provoking sergeant. You'd be a man of few words...but the words would resonate in every officer. :))

hmmmm...Canadian accent? From where? Do they say "somewheres" and "nowheres"...giggle I like that...do you say that?
I can't believe you've been called worse...not you!

I enjoy reading what you have to say.........
